La cerimonia si è svolta alla presenza di autorità politiche come l’onorevole Carmelo Santalco Junior, l’onorevole Luciano Ordile, presidente dell’ente teatro V. Emanuele e i membri della commissione: il Preside Franco Bonardelli e la D. ssa Concetta Barone. E’ intervenuto anche il sindaco On. Giuseppe Buzzanca. Il primo a prendere la parola, introducendo così la figura del Senatore Santalco, del quale non tutti conoscono la tragica esperienza, è stato l’onorevole Luciano Ordile. Santalco, dice, è stato uno straordinario uomo politico: poliedrico, pragmatico, aperto al confronto, al rinnovamento e soprattutto innamorato della sua città and its people. Egli è un esempio di uomo politico del passato, dai toni civili e rispettosi delle opinioni altrui, uno stile diverso d’esprimersi in contrapposizione all’aggressività di oggi.» La conclusione dell’evento ha visto i ragazzi premiati cimentarsi nella lettura dei loro componimenti, seppure con la voce tremula per l’emozione o ad una velocità di lettura eccessiva per l’imbarazzo, i loro messaggi sono arrivati ugualmente alla platea degli spettatori. La loro, certamente, è una visione mediata, un ricordo riflesso, ascoltato da altri che come il Senatore Santalco hanno realmente vissuto quella terribile tragedia. Ascoltare la lettura di questi scritti ha risvegliato in tutti la speranza in una gioventù non schiava della superficialità e della frivolezza, ma capace di usare appieno quella libertà di essere ed esprimersi per la quale tanti si sono immolati.
